Thailand expected to lift State of Emergency
Thailand is expected to lift a state of emergency in Bangkok in light of improving security and business pressure.
Twenty-three people have been killed since late November and the protests are scaring tourists away from Bangkok, with hotels among others feeling the pinch.
National Security Council chief Paradorn Pattanathabutr told Reuters there was a "very high chance" the emergency in Bangkok and some surrounding areas would be lifted soon.
"Business organizations have asked that it be lifted and the overall situation is easing," he said.
Three people were injured on Tuesday when an explosive device was thrown into Lumpini Park, where the protesters have set up camp. On Monday night, a grenade was thrown near a protest site in north Bangkok. No one was hurt, reports Reuters.
The 60-day State of Emergency was announced on January 22, giving the government wide powers to deal with public disorder – including imposing curfews and ruling parts of Bangkok off limits.
