The bare facts: why take a “nakation"
These are hard times for clothing-optional travelers, writes Christopher Elliott. Incidents such as the one of a US Airways passenger stripping during a flight have equated the move with craziness.
This has taken a toll: The number of people who say they’re interested in what’s being called a “nakation” slipped from 11 percent in 2008 to 10 percent this year, according to the Orlando-based market research firm Y Partnership.
With all of this happening, why would you still want to consider baring everything on your next vacation?
He has not taken one himself but a “nakation” has its charms, Elliott says.
There are many misconceptions such as the view that all nudists are perverts. Wrong, Elliott says. Reasons for taking one:
ï¶ It’s fun. Ask anyone who has gone skinny-dipping. And the entire family can do it.
ï¶ There are great deals being offered with reduced hotel prices.
ï¶ Finally, it’s easy to pack — particularly at a time when air carriers are charging for baggage.
