The Big Apple still cream of the crop
New York remains the most popular destination for American holidaymakers this winter.
Winter holiday bookings for 2002 are following the same pattern as the previous two years according to online agency, Travelocity. The website has reviewed its winter bookings and reported that New York remains in the top spot.
There is only one non-US city in the top-ten destinations for holidays booked this winter, which is London, ranked ninth. The most popular US cities are Denver (2nd), Los Angeles (3rd), San Francisco (4th) and Chicago (5th).
In addition to travel in North America, Travelocity reported increased bookings for winter holidays in Latin America and the Caribbean. Travelocity editor-at-large, Amy Ziff said: “While most people still visit family and friends over the holidays, it is interesting to note that more exotic vacation destinations such as Peru, Argentina and Tortola (British Virgin Islands) have increased their share of overall bookings significantly”.
Travelocity has reported a decrease in bookings to destinations in Europe including Germany, Switzerland, and France. Although the “key European cities” – London, Paris and Rome – remain in the top ten non-US cities being visited this winter, Travelocity says their share of bookings has declined.
