The cheek of it!
The Ghan, the first passenger train to cross Australia from south to north, was given a warm welcome on arrival in Darwin yesterday – a mass “moon” involving some 60 men and women. According to the Daily Telegraph’s Australia reporter Nick Squires, the train was met by women bearing their breasts and men displaying their bottoms, as the train arrived in the capital of the Northern territory at the end of its journey. There were dozens of dignitaries, including former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, on board the train as it completed its 47-hour journey from Adelaide. One photographer, who captured the incident on film, reportedly told the newspaper: “There were about 60 of them lined up. That’s the outback for you – you’re pretty much free to do what you want.”
