The perils of online booking…
One of London’s top hotels has reportedly been forced to compromise after unwittingly offering rooms for a tenth of their normal price.
According to the online news provider Ananova, the Lanesborough Hotel, on London’s Hyde Park Corner, was advertising rooms for £35 instead of £350 on its website.
Quick-thinking punters rushed to make as many bookings as possible – one reportedly reserved a room for 30 days at the rock-bottom price, while 30 others made 86 reservations.
Once the error was discovered, Ananova reports, the hotel’s management offered to re-book rooms at the full price.
However, “disgruntled” customers insisted that their bookings should be honoured; in the end a compromise was reached and guests were offered up to three nights’ accommodation at the reduced price.
At the time of going to press, the Lanesborough’s PR company was unable to confirm or deny the story.
