Thousands of flights cancelled as winter storm slams eastern US
A major winter storm spanning almost the entire eastern United States has decimated airline schedules. Over 3,000 flights were grounded on Sunday with more disruption expected on Monday.
Winter weather alerts stretched from Maine to Alabama with emergencies declared in Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. American Airlines scrapped more than 660 flights including nearly all at its Charlotte Douglas hub.
The US National Weather Service says more than one foot of snow could fall in some areas.
