Three dead, 30 missing as Erika hits Caribbean
Tropical Storm Erika has claimed three lives on the Caribbean island of Dominica and between 25-30 people are reported missing.
Heavy rains have ruins roads and swamped villages and the island’s authorities are focusing on a ‘search-and-rescue mission’ Prime Minisiter Roosevelt Skerrit said.
Weather experts warn Erika could bring up to 12 inches across parts of the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the southeast Bahamas into Saturday.
They warn the storm current 45-mph winds could get stronger to become a Category 1 hurricane as Erica approaches South Florida on Monday.
