Thunderstorms delay hundreds of flights
Heavy thunderstorms led to hundreds of delayed flights in Europe over the weekend.
Airlines were delayed by air traffic restrictions over southern Europe.
On Saturday, 250 British Airways’ flights, 359 easyJet flights and 99 Ryanair flights were delayed.
And yesterday, 34% of Easyjet flights – 552 flights – as well as 250 British Airways flights and 105 Ryanair flights were delayed according to flight data website, Flight Aware.
An EasyJet spokesman said: "easyJet can confirm that some of its flights this weekend were delayed due to air traffic control restrictions mostly caused by thunderstorm activity over Southern Europe.
"While the situation was outside of our control, we would like to apologise to passengers for any inconvenience."
"The safety of its passengers and crew is the airline’s highest priority."
A spokesman for British Airways said: "The delays we suffered over the weekend were in relation to thunderstorms, and high ATC demand across European skies."
