TIA: travelers continue online trend
Americans using the internet may have reached a plateau but numbers of travelers planning and booking trips online continue to climb rapidly.
So says a study released by the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA).
While the growth in the number of US adult travelers using the internet for any reason has slowed, the number of online travelers using the internet “grew significantly,” said the TIA.
Their survey results showed a majority of online travelers (78% of 79 million Americans) turned to the internet for travel or destination information this year. That number is much higher than the 65% of online travelers last year.
Survey findings also showed that 82 of travelers planning online trips now also book reservations online.
Said Suzanne Cook, TIA’s senior vice president:
“Americans are turning to the internet to plan and book their trips in greater numbers than ever before, and it’s become increasingly obvious that the way we sell and distribute travel has changed forever.”
