Tiger gets it is teeth into Queensland.
With Tiger Airways claiming to be Australia’s only true low fare airline, Tiger Airways, today commenced sales of three more domestic routes, linking its Melbourne (Tullamarine) hub with Mackay, Rockhampton and Gold Coast airports in Queensland.
Tiger has announced the following services: –
** Three times daily service between Gold Coast and Melbourne with fares from just $49.95 one way, starting 23 November 2007.
** Melbourne’s only direct service to Mackay, with one-way fares from just $59.95, and flights four times a week, starting on 23 November 2007.
** Melbourne’s only direct service to Rockhampton, with one-way fares from just $59.95 and flights four times a week, starting on 23 November 2007
All Flights are subject to regulatory approval and all fares are inclusive of taxes and charges.
Tiger Airways CEO Tony Davis said, “Tiger Airways is delighted to offer these exciting new domestic routes, linking our growing home base in Melbourne and the Gold Coast, Mackay and Rockhampton, with low fares which seriously challenge the advertised fares of our competitors.”
“Our customers have told us that they want lower fares to these popular Queensland destinations and the convenience of non-stop services between Melbourne and both Rockhampton and Mackay.
“The addition of over half a million low fare seats a year in these markets will have a dramatic impact on the tourism potential for both Queensland and Victoria,” Davis said.
Mr. Davis said Queensland is one of the fastest growing economies in Australia and in particular the Gold Coast has established itself as Australia’s favourite tourist destination with one of the fastest growing populations in the country.
“The commitment of The Gold Coast Airport through its investment in the runway extension and its convenient airport facilities convinced Tiger Airways to make the airport a key destination in our initial network.” Davis said.
Tiger Airways will operate from a new separate terminal at the Gold Coast Airport which will offer a fuss-free, no-frills service with convenient check-in facilities and regular Shuttle buses will provide direct access for Tiger Airways passengers from the Gold Coast Airport to Brisbane.
“With this new regular service from Melbourne, we will share the visionary plans of our key tourism partners – Gold Coast Tourism, Gold Coast City Council, Queensland State Government, and the thriving Queensland business community – to grow tourism in the Gold Coast over the coming years.” Davis said
Travellers using Tiger Airways new services between Melbourne and both Rockhampton and Mackay, will now benefit from true low fares and also the convenience of non-stop flights avoiding the current connections in Brisbane or Sydney.
Mr. Davis said Tiger Airways will be adding further routes to its domestic network over the coming weeks and as an added benefit to travellers who may require even greater travel flexibility, all fares offered by Tiger Airways Australia can be changed on-line up to 4 hours prior to departure for just $10, plus any difference in the fare.
This is in addition to the add-on services currently available with Tiger Airways’ services, such as luggage upsize options, advance seat selection, hotel and car-hire bookings.
