TMS underlines Queensland-based travel industry staffing opportunity

TMS Asia-Pacific has advised both travel businesses and individuals considering relocating to Queensland they could be making a very canny decision in the current investment climate.

According to TMS General Manager, Ainslie Hunt the local travel industry job market continues to boom with the sunshine state now able to offer a much larger employee candidate pool than many other parts of the country.

This, she said, was predominantly the case in Brisbane and along the Gold Coast corridor where many businesses, lured by attractive Queensland government incentives, were relocating from other parts of the country – and in particular New South Wales and Victoria – at a rate of knots.

Ms Hunt’s comments are borne out by figures released earlier this year by the Queensland Government’s Treasury Department  show the state maintained an unemployment rate of 3.7 per cent for the period January-December 2007, at the same time generating close on 60,000 new jobs many of which were created within the tourism and hospitality sector.

The 2.9 per cent rate recorded in December 2007 was in fact higher than the national rate of 2.6 per cent.*

“There is a misconception that there is a scarcity of good quality middle-to-senior management candidates in Queensland but that definitely is not the case,” Ms Hunt said.

“Over the last quarter TMS has helped fill more than a dozen middle-to-senior management roles in Queensland and we currently have several executive positions ready to be filled.

“These range from operational management, national sales management positions, BDM’s and client relationship roles, along with wholesale contracting.

‘We’re definitely interested in and regularly connecting with experienced people – both local and those considering relocation – looking to further their careers in the booming Queensland market.

“TMS is also in position to provide a valuable local knowledge-based start point for any organisation – established, newly-arrived or considering relocation – with an appropriate recruitment solution in that part of the world.”
