Tornado damage on Costa Blanca
British holidaymakers in the Costa Blanca were injured when a tornado hit a 12-mile stretch of the region’s coastline, causing massive damage within the space of 15 minutes.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, the twister hit on Friday, blowing roofs and chimneys from houses, tearing up trees and damaging hundreds of cars. One witness reportedly told the newspaper: “It was the worst I have ever seen – there was a wall of rain followed by instant floods. A few minutes later the sun was back out – the damage was amazing.”
The newspaper also reports that the island of Majorca was hit by spectacular storms; the resorts of Magaluf and Palma Nova were both hit by 70 mile-per-hour winds that blew down power lines. Several Britons are reported to have been hurt in the storms, which were responsible for some two and a half inches of rain falling in less than an hour.
