Tour operators fume over Bali rafting death
The death of the Chinese tourist on a Bali rafting trip has renewed calls for the government to strictly enforce the rules on illegal tour operators in Bali.
Eddy Sunyoto, of the Bali chapter of the Indonesian Association of Travel Agents (ASITA), wants an investigation into the deceased man’s tour arrangements.
ASITA is concerned about illegal operators handling Chinese groups in Bali, says Bali Update (www.balidiscovery.com)
Bali Postreported that official tour operators have also criticised the rafting company’s response to the fatal accident, claiming it was unsympathetic to the victim’s family.
They have also questioned the competency and professionalism of the rafting operator.
The owner of Bakas Levi Rafting, Nyoman Levi Suweta, told the Bali Post, “Perhaps the passenger panicked when he was trapped beneath the boat…. and maybe, too, the victim had a history of heart disease.â€
