Tourism in Hawaii reaching record levels
Both the number of visitors and spending hit record levels in Hawaii during the month of August.
Visitor spending was up by 9.5% from August of last year to more than $1 billion, outpacing increases in both arrivals and visitor days.
Visitor days for August rose by 7.7% from the same month a year earlier, according to the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.
Meanwhile, for the first eight months of the year, total arrivals set a record of more than 5 million visitors.
Spending was also up.
