Tourist killed by hippo in Kenya wildlife resort
A tourist died and a second was injured by a hippo at a wildlife resort in Kenya.
Taiwanese Chang Ming Chuang, aged 66, was bitten in the chest after getting too close to the animal that he was tracking at Lake Naivasha. He later died in hospital.
The second tourist, named as Wu Peng Te, was treated for minor bruising.
"Our officers tracked and shot the animal after the incident," said a Kenya Wildlife Service warden. David Kilo, chairman of Lake Naivasha Boat Owners Association, told local media the rising waters of the lake have cut grazing land for the hippos which have gradually encroached on land close to farms and resorts.
The same Taiwanese tour group was later involved in a road accident near Nairobi Airport.
Their shuttle bus, operated by Kenya Airways, was hit by a trailer and forced off the road.
The airline said 20 tourists were hurt, with one suffering serious head injuries.
