Tourists injured in Thai train crash
At least 30 people – most of them foreign tourists – were injured when a train came off the tracks in the mountains of northern Thailand.
The train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai was derailed last night in the province of Phrae.
Most of the injuries were minor but one person is in a serious condition. The others are understood to have been provided with transport to their destination.
Railway authorities believe the accident – the second derailment on the same route in a month – was caused by old tracks that are scheduled for repair.
The nationality of the victims has not been revealed.
Another train came off the tracks less than a month ago as it was travelling from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, but there were no injuries.
Services on the popular route are expected to resume later today.
