Tourists told to leave Martinique as Covid surges
Tourists have been asked to ‘leave the territory’ as the French Caribbean island of Martinique goes into a three-week lockdown as Covid-19 infections surge. They have been told to leave as soon as possible. All stores except groceries and pharmacies will be closed and hotels will only accept residents or essential workers.
French health minister Olivier Véran called for volunteer doctors and nurses to travel to Guadeloupe and Martinique as hospitals buckle under the strain.
