Tourists unfazed by wildfires and nasty weather
Worried about wildfires? Or those ominous forecasts for an active hurricane season? Apparently not.
A new study by the Travel Industry Association and Ypartnership found weather plays little part in American travel plans.
Their July “travelhorizons” survey found only 3% of travelers postponed an upcoming leisure trip because of wildfires in both the southeast and mountain west.
And just 2% report changing their destination because of the wildfires.
Even though hurricane forecasters are predicting a total of 13 to 17 named storms this year (seven to 10 of which are expected to reach hurricane status and three to five of which are expected to be Category III or above), there appears to be little concern to leisure travelers, according to the survey.
Only 1% of travelers have postponed a leisure trip because of concerns about the hurricane forecast; only 1% of travelers have changed their vacation destination because of the forecast; and only 1%of travelers have cancelled a trip because of the forecast.
