Trade united in belief that government is out of touch
As the travel industry braces itself for the Chancellor’s Budget announcement next week, TravelMole can reveal that the trade believes the government hasn’t a clue about the impact air tax is having on the travel industry.
In the latest TravelMole poll, thousands of respondents said the government was out of touch over air passenger duty.
The question "Is the government ‘out of touch’ over APD attracted 5,529 yes votes and only 85 no votes.
TravelMole posed the question after the Fair Tax on Flying campaign group accused the government of ignoring 12,000 emails from constituents expressing concern about the impact of APD (see earlier story).
ABTA has already written to the Chancellor George Osborne with a wishlist of requests for the Budget, including no further rises in APD.
So far, the government has ignored calls for APD to be scrapped. The Chancellor will announce his Budget for the next 12 months on March 20.
