Transport Canada takes action against Air India after pilot fails alcohol test
Federal regulator Transport Canada has ordered Air India to investigate an incident involving a pilot found under the influence of alcohol.
The pilot failed two breathalyzer tests.
The regulator stepped in after positive breathalyzer tests conducted by police at Vancouver International Airport.
The pilot was removed from the aircraft.
Transport Canada called it a ‘serious matter’ and threatened to pursue enforcement action.
The airline confirmed an incident that delayed the departure and brought in a replacement pilot to operate the flight.
“The pilot has been taken off flying duties during the process of enquiry. Air India maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any violation of applicable rules and regulations,” Air India said.
“Pending the outcome of the investigation, any confirmed violation will attract strict disciplinary action.”
Transport Canada has sought findings by the airline and what steps it intends to take to prevent any future repetition.
Air India must respond by January 26.
