Travel warnings for rugby world cup

Thursday, 09 Jul, 2007 0

A report in The Dominion Post says that New Zealanders travelling to the Rugby World Cup in France will have to ignore official safety warnings if they want to see the All Blacks play live.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry travel advisory service has advised rugby fans that there is “some” risk to their personal security in France, and has warned they should avoid demonstrations and large gatherings.

With the All Blacks expected to play in front of capacity crowds throughout the six week tournament beginning in September, large gatherings will be unavoidable.

A spokeswoman said that though the warning might appear to be discouraging supporters from attending matches, it was important to advise people of any security risk before they travelled.
