Travelcare expands direct-sell with purchase
Travelcare has acquired direct sell firm Medinland for an undisclosed sum.
Essex-based Medinland, which trades under five main brands including Hello Holidays, Journeys Direct and Sun Choice, sells via teletext and the internet.
The company was formed in 1998 and claims sales of more than £20 a year with one call centre in Chingford and two others in Sheffield. It has a staff of 80 and handled 75,000 passengers last year.
The deal is described as being part of a strategy by Travelcare to grow both independent travel and direct sales.
Medinland will continue to operate under its exiting management and operational structure, according to Travelcare general manager Amanda Williams.
She said: “Travelcare is committed to meeting changing consumer needs by developing and expanding its direct and e-commerce sales capabilities and the growth of the independent travel sector, a process already begun with our recent purchases of Cheapest Flights and Just Flights.
“Medinland already has a number of strong strategic alliances with overseas hoteliers and has made recent significant investment in automated booking systems. When this is combined with our own e-commerce expertise, we expect to make considerable further progress in developing Medinland’s business.”
