Travelcare in £5m IT upgrade with Comtec

Wednesday, 05 Nov, 2004 0

The first stage of a project to “transform” technology across the 360-branch Travelcare network has been revealed.

The chain, which claims to be the UK’s largest independent travel agency, is introducing a fully integrated selling and booking management system and broadband across the retail network at a cost of £5 million.

This is first phase of a project designed to build customer service capabilities and meet changing demand in the travel sector, according to the company which deals with one million customers a year.

Travelcare has launched two interlinked systems, TravelCAT and EasySELL, from software supplier Comtec in a bid to make the job of searching for, booking and administering holidays easier and quicker. Comtec’s systems have been tailored to meet Travelcare’s needs, and the chain is to work with the supplier on further enhancements.

Travelcare general manager Amanda Williams said: “This is just the first of a series of technological improvements we will be making across our retail network to enhance our sales capabilities in all our channels to market.

“We are developing a much more effective and efficient technology resource which will give us the product flexibility and fast response we need in a dynamic marketplace. It will help us grow sales both through our retail network and our direct operation.”

She added:  “Investment in this latest technology will enable the business to have one single view of the customer. Because of its speed and efficiency it will allow more holidays to be sold at busy times, which will enhance the overall service we offer our customers.

“In a fast-changing travel environment, we are determined to support our staff and retail network with the best possible tools to do the job.”
