Travelers heading for warmer weather
Wealthy Americans this year are heading for the same places as less well-heeled travelers: bluer skies and warmer weather.
Florida, Arizona and the Dominican Republic have grabbed the most attention so far this year, says Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
“Leading the pack by a mile, coincidentally, is the resort that sits at Mile Marker 82 on US 1 and the Florida Keys — Cheeca Lodge & Spa,” said Lanny Grossman, director of communications for the group.
He attributed part of that to the recent completion of a multi-million dollar renovation that included a 5,000 square foot spa, Plasma TVS and many other amenities.
The Bentley Beach Hotel in South Beach is another small luxury hotel near the top in bookings, he said.
The top three most popular properties this winter were within the US, but the recently built Sivory Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic is also topping lists.
Small Luxury Hotels of the World is a collection of over 360 independently-owned hotels in more than 60 countries.
