Travelex launches Heathrow’s first automated FX kiosk
Foreign exchange brand Travelex has launched a new automated, self-serve currency kiosk at Heathrow Terminal 2.
It is installed within the Travelex landside departures store.
The first-of-its-kind foreign exchange kiosk enables customers to place their order at a touch screen kiosk before collecting cash from a designated ATM machine.
The process is fully automated, meaning no human interaction is needed.
Travellers will be able to choose from an initial five currencies (Euro, Swiss franc, US, Canadian and Australian dollar).
The usual cash withdrawal limit won’t apply, enabling customers to order more currency than permitted at a traditional ATM.
An initial two kiosks and three designated ATMs have been installed at the Terminal 2 store.
The ATMs also provide regular ATM services to directly withdraw either UK sterling or a smaller amount of foreign currency.
The kiosks will be supported by Travelex sales consultants, who will be on hand to assist with any queries.
It is the latest milestone in a new digital-focused strategy from Travelex.
The company is increasing investment in developing digital solutions and launching more innovative products.
Earlier this year Travelex relaunched their Travel Money Card app in partnership with KAYAK, enabling customers to order a Travelex Money Card or cash.
It also enables search for flights, stays and rental cars through the app.
Travelex also launched the retail forex industry’s first ATM click & collect service in the UK and Australia.
Richard Wazacz, Travelex CEO, said: “We are really excited to launch a new digital product that complements our existing services.“
