Travelopia to consolidate tailormade portfolio

Monday, 05 May, 2020 0

Travelopia has confirmed that it is consolidating its tailormade product portfolio, which includes household names such as Hayes & Jarvis, Sovereign and Citalia.

Its tailormade portfolio also includes five other brands: American Holidays, Austravel, enchanting Travels, flexibleflights and MyPlanet.

All of the brands focus on bespoke, luxury holidays and operate in worldwide markets.

Erin Johnson, who joined Travelopia in February as marketing director for the tailormade divivion confirmed the portfolio is being consolidated but did not give any further details. Her brief covers Hayes & Jarvis, Sovereign, Citalia and Austravel.

Travelopia also has five other portfolios: education, events, expeditions, marine and US tour operators.

The group was bought from TUI by global investment firm KKR in 2017 for £325 million and Travelopia chief executive Andy Duncan announced last autumn that he planned to reduce the number of brands in the group from 50 down to just 10 within a year.

Speaking at the ABTA Travel Convention in Tokyo, Duncan described some of the brands as ‘quite weak’ and blamed lack of investment by TUI. He went on to sell Travelopia’s North American Experience Education brands to WorldStrides for an undisclosed sum last November. The sale included World Class Vacations and Brightspark US, serving the US educational market, and Brightspark Canada, Jumpstreet and Educatours in Canada.

At the time, Duncan said: "Our strategy under KKR ownership is to become the world’s best experiential travel company by focussing on a select number of brands in the Travelopia Group and the sale of these brands is a further step forward towards this ambition."
