Travelport teams up with JAL for Japanese joint venture
Japan Airlines has joined forces with travel distribution provider Travelport to establish a new joint venture.
Called Travelport Axess, the new service offers Japanese travel agencies and their customers locally developed products with state-of-the-art technology.
It will provide online, mobile and corporate travel solutions as well as expense management tools and access to New Distribution Capability content.
Travelport Axess will continue as a standalone service through the Axess’ GDS platform.
"We believe that the future of travel will be transformed by technological innovation. I am confident that Travelport Axess will be able to help Japanese travel agents to respond to growing global demands," said Yoriyuki Kashiwagi, JAL’s executive officer of international passenger sales.
The joint venture will be majority owned by Travelport with JAL holding the remaining stake and playing an active role in the business.
The new joint venture business is expected to be established on June 1, 2019.
Travelport Japan and Axess operate independently for the time being before a gradual integration.
