Trip4real launches in London
A website which works like Airbnb but acts as a portal for locals offering tours and experiences in their home town has expanded into London.
Trip4real allows local people to offer their services as tour guides or to provide visitors with other travel experiences in key cities.
Like Airbnb, it takes a commission on every booking.
The site, which began in Barcelona, has also recently launched in Rome, Paris and Lisbon.
It was set up by Gloria Molins in 2013 with a team of four and now employs 16 people.
It has recently secured funding from a list of ‘prestigious’ investors, including Catalonia’s most famous export, the chef and entrepreneur Ferran Adri- of restaurant elBulli fame.
Trip4real is now looking for ‘creative and passionate locals’ to join the movement in London.
Experiences already available to book include an introduction to DJ-ing, a sightseeing drive around London with an off-duty London cabbie, and an afternoon of sketching at the National Gallery with a local artist.
"If Airbnb can make anyone a hotelier, Trip4real can make anyone an expert tour guide,’ said Molins.
