Trivago reveals most expensive cities for autumn breaks
New York is the most expensive leading city break destination this autumn, according to a survey by hotel booking site trivago.
Amsterdam is the most expensive of the most popular European cities and the second priciest over all.
In New York, the average ‘clicked’ price is €252 per room per night, said trivago. In Amsterdam, the average price is €193. Dublin, the next most expensive in Europe, costs an average of €182 per night for a room. Sydney also costs an average of €182 a night.
Paris, at an average of €169 a night, completes the list of the top five priciest popular autumn detinations, according to trivago, which analysed online searches from September 1 to August 24 across all its major markets.
Sochi in Russia was the cheapest of the 15 most popular destinations, coming in at €67 per room per night, followed by Istanbul at €80 for a room, and Krakow at €90.
The top destination where travellers tend to spend the longest is Sochi, with an average stay duration of eight nights, followed by New York City with an average of 5.4 night stay. In third place is Cancun, Mexico, where travellers stay 5.2 nights on average.
Popular travel destinations with the shortest average stay durations this season include Auckland, New Zealand, (2.6 nights); Dublin, Ireland, (2.9 nights); and Brussels (three nights).
