TSA: passenger traffic plummets at airports nationwide
TSA checkpoints across the country are screening their lowest number of passengers for a decade, as travel restrictions and lockdowns decimate air travel.
On Friday TSA officers screened just 593,000 people, a massive two million fewer than the same day a year ago.
Numbers have been dropping steadily since early March.
The previous Tuesday was the first time total passenger count had dropped below one million since the infamous ‘Snowpocalypse’ storm of 2011.
Since the US closed borders to Europe and health officials warned against nonessential travel, air travel demand has tanked.
Meanwhile, a fourth TSA officer at Orlando Airport tested positive for the covid-19 virus.
At least 25 TSA officers have now tested positive at the three New York area airports, Orlando, Atlanta, San Jose, Fort Lauderdale, Washington Dulles and Cleveland.
