TUI tests augmented reality glasses in Palma
TUI has begun trialing augmented reality glasses for holidaymakers, giving them historical facts and stories while they explore a destination.
Its activities and excursions division, TUI Destination Experiences, is testing the technology in Palma de Mallorca for several weeks this winter.
The high-tech glasses put information, photographs, videos and 3D models right in front of what holidaymakers are looking at, allowing them to explore independently.
If the trial is successful, TUI will move on to the product development phase so holidaymakers can experience the ‘next generation of experiences’ for themselves.
Chris Carmichael, head of innovation at TUI Destination Experiences, said: "Augmented reality allows holidaymakers a new, more exciting access to historical facts and stories and takes into account the increasing desire of guests to explore cities and towns on their own.
"In our experience to date, the spectacles are also comfortable to wear for the user, so that they are not distracted by the actual experience."
