Tunisia steps up security in tourist areas
Tunisia has increased security in tourist areas following the attack on the Bardo museum but advice states there is still a high threat from terrorism.
Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice says that the Ministry of the Interior has increased the level of security, including in some tourist areas but warned that attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.
It advised visitors to be especially vigilant and follow the advice of Tunisian security authorities and tour operators.
Tunisian Interior Minister Najem Gharsalli said the attack on the Tunis museum last Wednesday, 18 March, was carried out by a cell of 23 militants with allegiances to Islamist groups, reports Reuters.
The attack killed 20 tourists including cruise passengers from Costa Fascinosa and MSC Splendida.
