U.S. Virgin Islands reopening to tourists on June 1

Tuesday, 27 May, 2020 0

The U.S. Virgin Islands will start welcoming back leisure travelers on June 1.

New public health protocols will be implemented ahead of the reopening of ‘America’s paradise’ says commissioner of tourism Joseph Boschulte.

"We did not want to rush to reopen in reaction to what other destinations are doing. Instead, we have engaged in data-driven, risk-based analysis," Boschulte said.

New protocols cover hotel operations from reception and concierge facilities, housekeeping, and the provision of maintenance services.

There is also guidance for taxi, and limo services, and safe restaurant and bar operations.

Drawing up the new guidelines has been a collaborative exercise with various tourism operators.

"We have engaged in analysis, in conjunction with the Virgin Islands Department of Health and federal guidance from the CDC, and other stakeholders," said Boschulte.

"We are very pleased with the across-the-board approach so that key tourism subsectors now have specific guidelines," he added.

"We now look forward to welcoming travelers back."
