UK drops travel advisory for Thai province
The UK government has now dropped its travel advisory for Thailand’s Trat province.
Trat shares a border with Cambodia but hasn’t really been impacted for some time by the border issues.
Despite this, the UK had advised against all non-essential travel to Trat.
It hadn’t caused a major downturn in travel demand from the UK, but due to the advisory, some UK travellers were unable to get travel insurance for trips to popular holiday island Koh Chang.
Koh Chang, along with Koh Kut and Koh Mak were not affected in any way with the border dispute issues and unlike the UK, other European countries placed no travel advisory on these islands,
The Trat Tourism Association said major European markets including the UK have boosted average hotel occupancy rates to about 80-90% for the winter season through March 2026.
Overall, the association said there had been very few European travellers cancelling trips to these areas.
It said domestic trips have recently picked up across the province, aided by a subsidy scheme.
