UK regional airports being eyed up by Spanish investor
Heathrow’s biggest shareholder is considering buying Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports.
Ferrovial, a Spanish company, has expressed an interest in all three regional airports, according to Sky News.
However, Gatwick’s owner Global Infrastructure Partners is also believed to be interested in buying Aberdeen.
Meanwhile, Gatwick has ruled out building a second runway if the Government allows Heathrow to build a third.
Gatwick chairman Roy McNulty told the Financial Times that getting returns on a second runway would double if Heathrow was allowed to expand at the same time.
The UK Airports Commission will publish a shortlist of potential locations for new runways next Tuesday, but a final decision on where extra capacity will be added won’t be taken until after the next General Election in 2015.
