UK tourism bookings hit by floods despite ‘business as usual’

Tourism businesses have been hard by the flooding with negative images stopping customers taking holidays in affected areas.

Visit England said despite most tourism businesses operating ‘business as usual’, bookings have been affected by customers’ perceptions.

Recent research carried out by the tourism body found that 41% of businesses have reported fewer forward bookings than normal and 26% have said they’ve had cancellations.

10% of consumers say they have been put off taking a trip to affected areas.

To help affected businesses, Visit England, in partnership with the Tourism Alliance, has created an online guide ‘Responding to Extreme Weather’ which is free and covers assessing the situation, communicating with customers, reviewing marketing activity, government support and legal considerations.
