Swan Hellenic has partnered with Marinelife, the marine conservation research charity, to bring a daily wildlife image blog to cruise passengers and the public alike.

Marinelife is currently onboard Swan Hellenic’s Sagas of Fire & Ice cruise visiting the Orkney and Shetland Islands, Iceland (four ports and close-cruising Heimaey), Scotland and the Faroe Islands, exploring the prolific wildlife seen ashore and in the surrounding seas of these remote regions.

The Marinelife team has been recording all sightings and engaging with passengers on board through a programme of presentations and deck watches. Marinelife’s team is writing a daily blog on the Swan Hellenic website to keep the general public up to date with a range of spectacular encounters which include many hundreds of dolphins of multiple species, a Humpback Whale mother and calf pair and – of course – sightings of the infamous Eyjafjallajokull volcano.

Emma Webb and Mike Bailey, the Marinelife team, say: "We are both delighted to be representing Marinelife on board Minerva as guest speakers to highlight the marine wildlife seen during the voyage to passengers whilst carrying out dedicated research into the distribution of cetaceans and seabirds.  A very special thanks to Captain Giovanni Biasutti who has been extremely co-operative and supportive of our work on board the ship."

Minerva will be returning to Iceland and visiting St Kilda on MIN110721 (21 July – 05 August 2011).
