United Airlines CFO resigns
United Airlines’ financial chief is taking flight, announcing his resignation to take up the chief financial officer’s position at digital payment processor PayPal.
"I can’t imagine a more exciting time to join PayPal," John Rainey said.
"PayPal is leading the transformation of money and the digitization of payments."
United Airlines has responded with the appointment of Gerald Laderman as acting chief financial officer.
Laderman will oversee all financial operations of the carrier including corporate finance, treasury, financial planning, analysis, tax and procurement.
Most recently Laderman was senior vice president of finance, procurement and treasurer, where he worked on aircraft financing, developing innovative debt structures, the company said.
He was also vice president of finance and treasurer for Continental Airlines before the company merged with United.
He joined Continental in 1988 and previously practiced law at a New York law firm.
The airline said it will soon begin a search for a permanent successor to Rainey and will consider both internal and external candidates.
