United Airlines suspending Chicago-Hong Kong flights

Tuesday, 25 Aug, 2019 0

United Airlines is the latest carrier to announce capacity cuts to Hong Kong services.

United will suspend its Chicago-Hong Kong route from September 9.

In addition its Guam to Hong Kong route will finish on October 14, which is eaelier than originally planned.

It cites weak demand on the route, while the months-long pro-democracy protests have likely escalated the decision to drop the Chicago route.

"Given the reduced demand for travel between Chicago and Hong Kong, we have determined that it is best to suspend our service," the airline said.

United is however still committed to launching a second flight to Hong Kong from San Francisco in October.

"We will continue to serve Hong Kong from our hubs in San Francisco and New York Newark," it said.

Customers booked on flights to or from Chicago from September 9 will be rerouted or may claim a full refund.
