United apologizes for SFO inflight catering snafu

Tuesday, 20 May, 2025 0

United Airlines has issued an apology to travelers over major catering service teething problems at san Frncisco Airport.

The issue sems from the changeover of its catering service partner from old contractor Gate Gourmet to Sky Chefs.

More than 800 workers, who were laid off by Gate Gourmet, joined Sky Chefs but the new contractor has experienced several days of hiccups.

It includes planes taking off with no meals and long haul flights with severely reduced meal and drink service.

Some flights were delayed to the catering holdups.

“Some flights have been delayed while we make sure they are stocked with the correct meals for their trip and others have not had the usual availability of meals we strive for. We’re sorry for these delays and we’re working to ease this transition,” a United spokesperson said.

“We recognize the challenges that can come with a transition of this size and scope,” a Sky Chefs spokesperson added.

“We’re working as quickly as possible to deliver the full-service catering experience United’s customers have come to enjoy.”

Some United workers are assisting the catering contractor to ease any catering service disruption ‘over the coming weeks.’
