Universal Beijing to open in 2021
Universal’s long awaited theme park debut in China will take place in 2021.
The new Universal theme park in Beijing has been pushed back a year to 2021 and the first phase will open with Universal Studios and the Universal CityWalk retail and dining complex.
The company said the first phase development is in the final stages.
"This is a gift in advance for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Please expect the grand opening of the Universal Beijing Resort in 2021," an announcement read.
Located east of Beijing in the Tongzhou district, it is set to become Universal’s largest theme park, and will house the first Universal-themed hotel.
A subway line linking the park with the city is almost completed.
Planned character rides and attraction include Harry Potter, Kung Fu Panda, the Minions and Transformers.
