US airplanes flying to capacity
Empty middle seats on US airplanes are becoming extinct. And it’s no wonder when you consider that the airlines operated fuller last month than in any previous March.
Four carriers — American, Delta, Continental and United — reported their highest-ever percentages of filled seats for the month of March.
That might be fine for the airlines, but poor weather has helped create havoc during the busy spring break season.
“Due to cancellations, airlines had to consolidate passengers on fewer planes than initially planned. Planes were so full that passengers waited days to be rebooked on other flights,” USA TODAY writes.
It all adds up to the “perfect storm” — at least from the perspective of passengers.
