US travelers load up on technology
So what do Americans bring along when they travel?
Cell phones, of course, but also digital cameras topped the list of the most popular technologies US travelers want when they are away from home.
“While the point of a vacation may be to ‘get away from it all,’ travelers bring a surprising amount of technology with them in order to stay connected during their leisure trips,” concluded the latest Traveler survey by the Travel Industry Association and Synovate.
The study found one quarter of Americans also packed laptops. Only slightly less also brought CD players.
About one in five travelers reported using the internet to stay connected with family or friends.
“In this day and age of PDAs, digital cameras, wireless and high-speed internet access, travelers can share their experiences and photos as they happen instead of waiting until they return from vacation,” said Suzanne Cook, senior vice president of research for the Travel Industry Association.
About one in ten travelers reported they took technology on vacations because they had no choice but to remain connected. Six percent said, however, that they like to perform work while on vacation.
