Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpiece Fallingwater reopens for its 90th anniversary
Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic masterpiece Fallingwater reopened in March to the public alongside a milestone 90th anniversary celebration. The new season brings enhanced visitor experiences, a full calendar of special events, and the unveiling of a freshly preserved architectural treasure following a major three-year restoration project.
Set dramatically above a cascading waterfall in Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands, Fallingwater stands as one of the most celebrated works of modern architecture around the world.
Designed in 1935 by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family, the home has captivated generations with its seamless integration of nature and design. Since opening as a museum in 1964, it has welcomed visitors from across the globe and earned global recognition, including inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In addition, Fallingwater is designated as a National Historic Landmark and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Treasure, and named the “best all-time work of American architecture” in a poll of members of the American Institute of Architects.
This year’s reopening is particularly significant. The completion of the “World Heritage Preserved” initiative means the removal of scaffolding and protective structures that had enveloped the house during conservation work. Visitors can now experience Fallingwater in its full, unobstructed glory—just as Wright intended.
Tours of the house began March 14 and will run through November 30, 2026, operating daily except Wednesdays. Visitors can choose from a range of immersive options, including the popular Guided Architectural Tour and the more exclusive In-Depth Guided Tour, which offers access to additional interior spaces. Specialty experiences, such as family-focused educational tours and guided landscape explorations, provide broader ways to engage with the site. Advance reservations are required due to limited group sizes.

Celebrating events
Beyond tours, the visitor experience is further enriched by the reopening of the Fallingwater Museum Store and Café. At the Visitor Center, the Speyer Gallery hosts “The Kaufmann Films: A Legacy in Motion,” an interactive exhibition showcasing rare archival footage from the Kaufmann family, offering deeper insight into the home’s history and legacy.
To mark its 90th anniversary, Fallingwater will host a series of cultural events throughout the year. Highlights include a lecture by Christopher Wilk of the Victoria and Albert Museum, musical performances within the house itself, and a jazz celebration in partnership with MCG Jazz. A standout event is the August 29 Anniversary Gala, promising an elegant evening blending art, nature, live music, and fine dining.
Unique immersive experiences also feature prominently. Visitors can participate in curated events such as a chocolate-tasting journey led by master chocolatier Christopher Curtin or enjoy exclusive Focus Tours that include seasonal meals served on the home’s scenic terraces.
Education remains central to Fallingwater’s mission. The Fallingwater Institute offers a wide range of residencies, workshops, and courses for students and professionals interested in architecture and sustainable design. Supported in part by The Heinz Endowments, scholarship opportunities help broaden access to these transformative learning experiences.
Rounding out the anniversary year, Fallingwater has introduced a new wordmark, reflecting a modern yet timeless identity. Inspired by Edgar Kaufmann Jr., the updated design reinforces the site’s role as a lasting symbol of harmony between art, architecture, and the natural world.
