Vaccinated travellers could be allowed to skip amber list quarantine

Summer holidays could be back on for many travellers – as long as they are fully vaccinated.

Changes are reportedly being considered to the traffic light system which would allow fully vaccinated holidaymakers to skip isolating on their return.

They would still need to be tested for Covid.

The Telegraph reports that Health Secretary Matt Hancock is in favour of the proposal which is still at an early stage in discussions.

A government spokesperson confirmed talks are ongoing to ‘consider the role of vaccinations.’

It would unlock holidays to many of Europe’s main holiday destinations such as Spain and Greece which are currently classed as amber countries.

"Recognising the strong strategic rationale and success of the vaccine programme, we have commenced work to consider the role of vaccinations in shaping a different set of health and testing measures for inbound travel," the spokesperson said.

If it happens, it will likely serve as an incentive for more people to get vaccinated quickly.

Those not vaccinated travelling back from amber list countries would still need to isolate at home.
