Vegas casino bets on Apple Pay
Apple Pay is heading to the Las Vegas Strip with the Cosmopolitan about to become the first hotel-casino to install Apple Pay equipped contactless pay point terminals.
From next month iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch users can pay for hotel stays, a bar bill, VIP services or in some stores with a simple tap.
However Apple Pay funded gambling is still off limits – for now.
The payment terminals at the Cosmopolitan are also Google Wallet compatible and accept other types of electronic payments.
"The arrival of Apple Pay on the Las Vegas Strip is a natural fit, offering increasingly mobile-centric, luxury travelers a streamlined and convenient experience," says Lisa Marchese, chief marketing officer for The Cosmopolitan.
After rolling out last fall, the expected rush for Apple Pay adoption in the hospitality industry hasn’t really materialized yet.
One thing that may change that though, is the steady flow of malware attacks being perpetrated on outdated point of sale terminals in hotels.
The industry is still being seen as a soft target and the latest attack – in Vegas itself at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino – has done little to allay those fears.
