Vietjet spreading its wings to Melbourne
Low cost carrier Vietjet plans to start flying to Melbourne’s second airport Avalon.
Vietjet says to will serve Avalon Airport four times a week to and from Ho Chi Minh City.
Launch date is still undisclosed but will be sometime in the second half of 2020.
"They’re looking initially at flying to Ho Chi Minh City but they’re also talking to us about other destinations…but that’s not finalised yet," said airport boss Justin Giddings.
"It’s a great outcome, our second international airline, and we’re very excited."
Avalon currently handles international flights by AirAsia X.
It will be Vietjet’s first foray into Australia.
The fast growing ‘bikini airline’ has a wide network of international short haul routes across North and Southeast Asia.
