Vietnam bar fire kills 33 people
The death toll has risen to 33 people in a fire at a bar in South Vietnam.
In response, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered fire safety inspections at all bars, pubs, and nightlife venues around the country.
An investigation is underway into the blaze at the three-storey karaoke bar in Minh Duong Province.
The government said any venue not meeting fire safety standards will be closed.
However, it was reported the bar had passed fire safety inspections, including the latest one this year.
As a karaoke bar the walls were lined with soundproofing foam which may have accelerated the spread of the fire.
Local residents reported hearing several loud explosions before flames fast engulfed the top two floors of the building.
At least 40 people were injured.
Fires at small karaoke bars have become increasingly frequent tin recent years
Just last month a karaoke bar blaze killed three firefighters in Hanoi.
