Viking River Cruises fuels Downton-fever
It’s a red-letter week for Downton Abbey fans.
Gareth Neame, producer of the PBS smash hit series has announced that the show may run "another five or six years" with surprise guests popping up over the years.
And Viking River Cruises, national corporate sponsor of the host program ‘Masterpiece’ has just announced that it will renew its sponsorship of the show for another two more years.
Currently, fans see 30-second ‘sponsor spots’ (don’t call them commercials—this is PBS) at the top and bottom of every episode of Masterpiece (not just the Downton episodes). These will continue into series three and four of Downton Abbey.
No word yet on licensed Downton cruises at Viking, but the show’s massive fan base has already been filling up the blogosphere about the need for Downton-inspired travel experiences.
Currently, Highclere Castle, where the show is filmed, is inundated with Downton’s posh-obsessed pilgrims from all over the world on a regular basis.
