Virgin aircraft in emergency landing
A Virgin Australia plane made an emergency landing after running low on fuel.
The plane, which was travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne, landed safely at Mildura in regional Victoria a few hours ago.
Local media reports quoted Mildura Airport CEO Bill Burke sayig the plane, and a separate Qantas flight, had been diverted to Mildura because of heavy fog in Melbourne.
However, the fog rolled in across Mildura too, making landing difficult.
The Virgin flight had to pull out of two attempted landings, and ran low on fuel in the process, said reports.
A Virgin Australia spokesman said the plane was met by emergency vehicles on landing as ”a precautionary measure only, that is standard operating procedure under the conditions, which in this instance was a diverted landing due to bad weather.”
Investigations are continuing.
